U.S. Army Col. Keith Wagner Receives Pharmacy Industry’s Top Honor Fifth Annual Event Recognizes Innovation and Inspiration in Pharmacy
Boston — August 25, 2014 — Pharmacy leaders from across the country gathered at the Fairmont Copley Plaza last night to recognize the work of their peers in delivering innovative patient care and to learn who among them would hold the coveted title of 2014 Next-Generation Pharmacist™.
Col. Keith Wagner, PharmD, RPh, who is Director of Pharmacy at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Ga., and the U.S. Army’s Pharmacy Informatics Consultant, received the top honor as the 2014 Next-Generation Pharmacist. Co-founded by Parata and Pharmacy Times, this national awards program honors pharmacists, technicians, students, and industry advocates who are defining the future of pharmacy. Since 2010, more than 100 pharmacy leaders have been named finalists or winners.
Of the record-setting 500 nominations received this year, three finalists were named in each of 10 categories, and last night, the winners were announced. The overall title of Next-Generation Pharmacist is determined from among the winners of the eight pharmacist categories; the two additional categories recognize technicians and students.
“As a founding sponsor of Next-Generation Pharmacist, celebrating the program’s fifth anniversary with an amazing show of 500 nominations makes this an especially exciting event,” said Tom Rhoads, CEO, Parata. “It is an honor to recognize pharmacy leaders who are truly setting the stage for the next generation of pharmacy. They are an inspiration to not only their peers, but most importantly to their patients.”
Col. Wagner was named the 2014 Military Pharmacist, chosen specifically for driving excellence in pharmacy operations and his innovative approach to patient care for those who serve our country.
“Pharmacy Times is always honored to feature the Next-Generation Pharmacist on the cover, but it’s a special honor to recognize one of our military practitioners,” said Fred M. Eckel, Pharmacy Times Editor-in-Chief, who chaired the panel of judges that reviewed nominations to select the winners. “Wagner stands out for his commitment to excellence and standards in all aspects of pharmacy operations and patient care. He is truly a Next-Generation Pharmacist.”
Wagner’s selection as the 2014 Next-Generation Pharmacist lands him on the cover of the August 2014 issue of Pharmacy Times, unveiled at the event. He, along with finalists, is featured in the issue and on the Pharmacy Times website.
“We believe in supporting the profession of pharmacy and shining a light on the forward-thinking leaders with this national program as Pharmacy Times looks ahead to 2015 and future innovations in pharmacy,” said Ashley Hennessy Talamo, Publisher of Pharmacy Times.
